What is CTDL?

CTDL is a web application for NAATI CT exam preparation in the English-to-Chinese direction. It combines a bank of exam-style source texts, AI grading modelled on the published Certified Translator assessment rubric, and a review system that remembers your past mistakes.

Each graded attempt produces a band score per dimension, an itemised error list and a reference translation with sentence-level analysis. Over time CTDL groups your errors into weak points and plots your bands and pass rate, so you can see whether you are actually closing the gap.

Everything one practice session needs

From the source text to the review card, each step is designed around how the CT exam is assessed.

  • Exam-style Task A and Task B

Translate a roughly 250-word non-specialised text with its Translation Brief, or revise a flawed translation by marking, categorising and correcting each error.
  • Rubric-based band scoring

AI grading scores every dimension on the 1–5 band scale, flags each error as major or minor, and shows where you sit against the pass line.
  • Question any verdict

Ask follow-up questions about a score or a flagged error. If your argument holds, the dimension can be re-graded and the decision is recorded.
  • Deep learning per text

Compare your version with a reference translation, break down long sentences step by step, and collect vocabulary and expressions worth keeping.
  • Weak points that update themselves

Recurring errors are detected and grouped into weak-point categories with priority and recurrence, and marked resolved once they stop appearing.
  • Progress you can measure

Track band trends per dimension and your pass rate by day, week or month, with a weekly AI commentary on what changed.

How it works

A complete practice loop takes about as long as one exam task.

  1. Choose a text

Filter the question bank by task type, difficulty and domain, or generate a new exam-style text.

  2. Translate or revise

Work under exam-like conditions with the Translation Brief and an optional countdown timer.

  3. Read your band report

See band scores per dimension, pass-line status and an itemised error list with severity.

  4. Review and repeat

Challenge verdicts, study the reference analysis, and let your weak points steer the next text.

Who it is for

  • CT exam candidates

Translators preparing for the NAATI Certified Translator test into Chinese who want frequent, structured feedback between attempts.
  • Re-sit candidates

Candidates who need to see exactly which dimension held them back and track whether it improves.
  • Working translators

Practitioners who want a disciplined routine for register, terminology and sentence-level accuracy.
